September 13, 2015 in Education, Events by Patricia Jennex

Yvonne3Illumination Engineering Society of Orange County presents “Lighting Design Considering the Impacts of Light Pollution”

on Wednesday September 23rd

featured speaker Yvonne English (’08), PLA, ASLA, IES, LEED AP.

Mitigating the negative effects of excessive light in our environment is critical to human health and impacts on other species, sustainable energy and water quality. This presentation looks at how Landscape Architects, Landscape Designers and Lighting Designers can alter light pollution crises, creating a beneficially lit environment.

Yvonne English, UCLA Landscape Architecture Alumni, licensed Landscape Architect, Landscape Contractor, and LEED AP, is the founding principle of Legends Design Studio. Her multiple roles grant her hands on experience in all facets of landscape design project development, including preliminary design, site planning, planting, irrigation, lighting and water feature design, construction drawing specifications, construction support, and LEED sensitive design.

In 1995, Yvonne began training as a lighting designer with Bill Lochlin, the founder of Nightscaping. Her abilities expanded as she attended several workshops presented by Janet Moyer, the renowned expert of landscape lighting. Yvonne never forgot the knowledge gained from Janet’s wisdom and attended Janet’s 5-day professional Landscape Lighting Institute in New York. Her construction company, Legends in Landscape, has designed and installing lighting systems for the last 20 years.

Los Angeles County voters approved the Safe Neighborhood Parks Measure assessment in 1992. It provides about $54 million a year for neighborhood and regional parks and recreation. That measure is about to expire-Proposition P is designed to preserve park and open space funding through a $23 annual parcel tax. Proposition P will be on the November ballot and there are only a few weeks left to get the word out.

Attend a webinar to get involved: see the legacy of the previous parks measure and how Proposition P is structured to emphasize projects in park-poor areas; projects that enhance water quality in the LA River, San Gabriel River, creeks, lakes and beaches; projects that protect water supply sources; projects that increase open space; and projects that employ and train local youth. Invite your staff, your team or your organization to attend too. Pass this invitation along! (Go to WebEx.com if you’d like more information about webinars.)

We will also provide fact sheet hand-outs in multiple languages.
